About ELC

Welcome to CSD Early Learning Center in Gary, IN. We serve almost 300 students in grades Pre-K through 2. 

K-2 Overview

There are four sections of Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade at ELC. Each kindergarten classroom has a full time paraprofessional supporting the classroom teacher. Breakfast and lunch are provided to all students free of charge. Students start each day with “Morning Meeting” and have not only one, but TWO outdoor recesses each day (weather permitting). In addition to learning English language arts, mathematics, writing, science and social studies, our K-2 students also participate in physical education, music, computer science, and art.

8:00AM-2:45PM

Transportation

Drop Off: Car riders can be dropped off at Door A between 7:30AM-7:55AM

Pick Up: Car riders must be picked up at Door A between 2:45PM-3:00PM

Bus transportation is provided for K-2 students. New families should indicate their need for bus transportation during registration in PowerSchool. Returning families interested in bus transportation must come into the school and complete a bus transportation form. After School Care: Provided free of charge, Monday-Friday until 6:00PM, on a first come, first serve basis. Sign-ups go out to families via ParentSquare at the beginning of the school year. 

Pre-K Overview

ELC offers a full day Pre-Kindergarten program to children who are 4 years old by August 1st of the current school year. We have two classrooms with a 12:1 ratio, staffed with a highly qualified teacher and paraprofessional. Our curriculum, The Creative Curriculum,  focuses on the development of the whole child: cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains. We are a CCDF and OMW Pre-K eligible program that accepts all students with a cap of 48.

Transportation

All students in Pre-K are car riders.

Drop Off: Students can be dropped off at Door D between 8:00AM-8:15AM

Pick Up: Students must be picked up at Door D between 2:20PM-2:30PM
